Summer Youth Police Academy at DVC

July 17-20 & July 24-27, 2023: 8am-6pm | Diablo Valley College at Pleasant Hill

The Summer Youth Police Academy is for students interested in public safety to gain knowledge and experience in a law enforcement career. This academy aims to expose you to different situations and provide various techniques to help you become a better problem solver, quick thinker, and good role model for others.

You will become familiar with constitutional rights, amendment rights, penal codes, vehicle codes, health and safety codes, and much more. You will have daily uniform inspections, lectures, quizzes, scenarios, and physical training. We will provide you feedback which will help with understanding your strengths and weaknesses. Increasing self-confidence will improve your communication, speaking, writing, and people skills. The program will also teach you about time management, teamwork, accountability, and the police department structure.

You will be exposed to stressful situations to learn better ways to overcome anxiety, stress, and conflict. You will learn techniques to de-escalate situations to gain compliance and control over a problem while remaining calm, respectful, and professional. You will learn to think before speaking as you gain control over the situation or your emotions to respond appropriately to conflict or aggressive situations. These skills are helpful in problems you may encounter in your own life, such as disagreements with siblings, friends, parents, or school.

This is an excellent course if you are up for a life-changing experience to improve your future. At the end of the academy, we celebrate the student’s accomplishments with a ceremony and provide awards to all graduates where family, friends, and participating agencies can attend.

The instructors are police officers pulled from various police departments throughout the Bay Area.
The program follows police academy POST standards, Peace Officer Standards, and Training.
