Memorial Day Flag Planting @ San Francisco National Cemetery
May 27, 8:45am-1pm
Annually, Golden Gate District scouts plant more than 30,000 flags at the San Francisco National Cemetery, ahead of Memorial Day services.
Deadline to register your unit: 5pm on May 26, 2023
Our very first San Francisco Bike Rodeo will also take place on May 27! In collaboration with SFFD, CHP, SFPD and a number of other agencies and organizations, we hope to educate about 300 youth (scouts and non-scouts) about bike safety through a series of fun and engaging activities.
Scouts BSA members can complete several requirements towards their Cycling Merit Badge; blue cards will be provided. Scouts can also earn volunteer hours!
Can you help? Here's a list of what equipment and assistance we need.

Float with the Sea Scouts Day
June 3, 10am-2pm @ SF Sea Scout Base
All Cub Scouts in the GGD are invited to join the Sea Scouts for a 'Float with the Sea Scouts' day on June 3. At this event, the Sea Scouts will take Cub Scouts and their families out on a tour around Aquatic Park in one of the Sea Scout whaleboats. Scouts who have completed their BSA Swim Test or any adult can take out a one-person kayak.
Please pass along this information along to your Pack! Deadline to register is June 1:
Campers meet at the Sea Scout Base in Aquatic Park for hands-on boating with a team of Sea Scout leaders and counselors, learning boating skills and safety procedures. They have games and activities in the park, on the beach, and explore the SF Maritime National Historical Park and its majestic fleet of historic ships. Three weeks of camp still have openings!
May 27-28, 1-4 pm each day @ California Maritime Academy
You are invited to watch the members of GGAC Sea Scout ships take part in classic naval competition events at the 80+ year old Ancient Mariner Regatta. This is the biggest competition during the spring season and will feature youth-led teams from all over California.

The mothers of San Francisco’s Troop 1 (Boys) and Troop 2001 (Girls) were grinning with delight and a full tummy after their scouts prepared a 3-course home-cooked meal for the family on Mother’s Day weekend. The menu was Caesar salad with tomatoes and parmesan cheese; pesto spaghetti with more parmesan cheese; and chicken breast nuggets with no added chemicals or preservatives. Social media was flooded with pictures of mothers, scouts, and the food they created.
Next cooking event will be Father’s Day BBQ of campfire shrimp salad with scout-made Thousand Island dressing, and tasting of sliders with beef, chicken, or plant-based meats, and Hawaiian potato salad.
The Troop 1 and Troop 2001’s motto is: I will lead, be strong and practice kindness.
Key 3 Corner
Featured this month: Paul Lanzi, District Commissioner
Hi from the Key 3 Corner! This month I'd like to talk about recording community services hours. We have a Council goal to record 150,000 service hours and we need YOUR help by documenting the community service hours performed by your Troops, Packs, and Ships. Each act of service holds immense value, as it contributes to the betterment of our communities and inspires others to follow suit. By accurately recording these efforts, we not only acknowledge the dedication and impact of our youth but also encourage more individuals to perform their own service. Together, let us ignite a spirit of service that will resonate within our District and extend beyond.
Congrats to Troop 29 for leading the District with 335 service hours recorded!

Friends of Scouting
Our Friends of Scouting (FOS) goal for this year is to raise $25,000 for scouting in the Golden Gate District, and we're going to do our best to top that.
