All leaders and Scouts should be in full uniform for the event. Scouts might consider bringing drinking water, using sunscreen, and dressing in layers to be prepared for various types of weather.

Reminder: Important Change to New Adult Registration Process

Now in effect

Beginning March 4, new adults must pass their Criminal Background Check (CBC) before they are considered registered adult leaders. This delay may add 3-5 days after the New Adult Application is approved by the Chartered Org Rep.  This is a change being made nation-wide to the registration process.

This change will have the most impact to units that are trying to register adult leaders right before leaving on camping trips or Summer Camp. Be SURE to allow enough time for CBCs to complete for new leaders or they will NOT be permitted to stay overnight with the scout unit.

REMINDER: Older Scouts Needed as Cub Day Camp Counselors

        June 17-21

We need older Scouts to help run this program! Scouts that are interested in this leadership and service hour opportunity should email campyunakin@gmail.com and cc their parent and/or Scoutmaster. They should provide a short bio including:

        • The age and rank they will be at the start of camp.
        • What camp experience they have (if any).
        • Why they are interested in this experience.

Ideally, Scouts will be at least 12 and Scout rank but ultimately Scouts will be chosen based on their maturity, enthusiasm, and familiarity with the Scouting program. Younger Scouts will be support for the older Scouts that will primarily deliver the camp experience. Older Scouts with leadership experience and/or training will be given the most senior roles.

Bios are due by ASAP; planning meetings begin in April.

Scouts can expect to earn more than 50 service hours between planning meetings and the week of camp.

Featured this month: Paul Lanzi, District Commissioner

wreath of service around the BSA logo
        What is a Commissioner?

I've had the pleasure of serving as District Commissioner for 14 months now, and I feel like I'm still learning more about the answer to that question. That said, I wanted to share a few key points about the job of a Commissioner and what service we are here to provide to the units of our District.

Commissioner's Culture: Be the Heart. Scouting units are its heart; we support unit leaders as they deliver the scouting program to youth. Build Relationships. We must develop relationships that are based on mutual respect, candor, and trust. Change Lives. Scouting changes lives -- youth, volunteers and professionals -- and Commissioners support all of those groups' growth.

Commissioner's Priorities: 1) Be the single, best resource.  2) Ensure S.A.F.E. program delivery and 3) Enable significant, sustainable growth.

Your Commissioner Corps is here to provide all of these services -- through direct conversations, through our Monthly roundtable, through our support of the annual recharter process and our leadership of select District events. Our Commissioner logo is wrapped in the Wreath of Service, as a reminder of the service that we provide to unit leaders.

We are a happy and helpful group -- if you're interested in becoming a Commissioner, get in touch with me!
