Golden Gate District Leader Updates

June 2026

Hi Scouter,

Hope everyone is having some great scouting adventures over the summer break so far!

Challenging everyone to go "like" and "share" our recent social posts on our district Instagram and Facebook pages to help increase awareness about scouting in SF (or if you're curious to see recent recaps of the Valkyries Scout Night, Cub Day Camp Yunakin, and more). If you have summer scouting stories you'd like us to share, please submit photos and a short blurb here.

See some camp & upcoming community service info below my signature.

Please forward this email (or this link) to anyone who may find the information relevant and feel free to respond with any questions.

Sincerely,
Charlotte Brownstone

General FYIs

Welcome Our Marketing Intern

Welcome to our summer marketing intern, Jack, from Corsair, Ship 22! Jack will be helping develop reels for Facebook & Instagram to help provide some more social media content, drafting flyers, social media posts, etc. If you have a scout in your unit who is interested in a fall internship doing similar work, have them fill out this form.

FOS Updates

As a reminder, Friends of Scouting (FOS) is the fundraising program for scouts in the Golden Gate District. Our District's goal for 2026 is $87,000 and so far we are about halfway to our goal. We will be posting some regular donation asks on social media that would be great for any unit social media accounts & individuals to like and share to help spread the words to folks outside of scouting who may want to support. In the meantime, units can feel free to post the FOS donation link on their own socials. Feel free to reach out to Charlotte for any questions on fundraising asks on social media.

Reminder: Events Calendar

Our official way of communicating events is via the monthly District Newsletter and in the District Calendar, but a lot of that doesn't reach parents, so we ask for your help in including District news and events in your newsletters and socials. Unofficially, the District Operating Committee also maintains a working calendar here, in case this is useful for leaders. More details on some of these events are in the Events & Camps section below.

Reminder: Service Opportunities

Thanks/congrats again to Enoch Ho for stepping up as District Service Chair.  We need volunteers to help staff the Guardsmen marathon on 6/21, which will get volunteers free entry into next year's races at length of their choosing. Come Fleet Week we will be asking for volunteers to guard exits and staff recruiting booths on Marina Green.  If you want any guidance on how to build and run a fun and impactful monthly service event program in your unit, reach out to Mr. Ho.  We also encourage any units to reach out to Mr. Ho if they have a service event organized that could use a few more hands from other units.

Reminder: Recruiting Tables

Remember that as long as they are volunteer staffed,  our amazing District Executive Marisol Gonzalez can help you get Council funds to cover recruiting booths/tables. Units are able to recruit anywhere in the city they choose.  Look at the other tabs of the event calendar sheet, to see possibilities like the Union Street Festival, North Beach Festival, and Inner and Outer Sunset Farmers Markets.

Reminder: Scout Advancement

T2088G Scoutmaster Peabody put together a program for getting Crossovers ranked up to Scout in two meetings via Scout run workstations here. There's also a new asset on getting Scouts to First Class in 12-18 months here. If your units would like help/advice implementing these, let District Training Chair Rob Oliver know!
