We had an action-packed day with over 200 attendees at our Bike Rodeo at Stonewstown Galleria on May 10! This event was all about fun, learning, and safety for youth and the community and included bike safety training, bike rack training with SFMTA, CPR training, adaptive bicycling, and more 🚲
This event represented what scouting is all about: enhancing skills, building confidence, and fostering a love for outdoor adventures. Can't wait to see even more youth and community members next year! đź‘‹

Weeks of June 9 - July 14 @ Sea Scout Base, San Francisco
Incoming 6th through 9th grade campers spend every day exploring the best the San Francisco waterfront has to offer! Each day participants will learn the basics of kayaking, outrigger canoeing, and sailing on our fleet of traditional craft at San Francisco Sea Scouts Base. Campers meet at the Base in Aquatic Park for hands-on boating with a team of Sea Scout leaders and counselors, learning boating skills and safety procedures. They also have games and activities on our lawn, on the beach, and explore the sites like the Maritime Museum.
On June 29, scouts, friends and family are all invited to march in the Scouts for Equality – Golden Gate contingent. We march in the family/community section of the parade and ALL are welcome! Email Wendell Baker to register.

Service (+Fun) Opportunity: SF Marathon
June 22 @ Presidio
Service Opportunity with a Valued Community Partner For decades, The Guardsmen—a nonprofit, all-volunteer group—has helped send Scouts to camp. Last year alone, they funded camperships shared with over 100 Scouts. This year, they’re doing even more. Now it’s our turn to support them. On Saturday, June 22, they are hosting a Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K in the Presidio, ending at Crissy Field. With over 4,000 runners expected, they’re asking for Scout volunteers to hand out water, medals, cheer runners on, and support key race operations. This is a fantastic way to:
Robin Praegar, District Chair, will be running the race himself to raise Friends of Scouting Community dollars. If you'd like to join him, sign up here: Register for the Race

Win! Win! Win!
Popcorn sales are back—and in the Golden Gate District, it can be a win-win-win for all involved!
Selling popcorn gives Scouts a chance to develop real-world skills like salesmanship, communication, and confidence. Whether they’re pitching to neighbors, staffing a storefront, or sharing their online link, Scouts are learning—and earning. They can raise money for individual adventures like summer camp or high adventure trips, while also contributing to the success of their troop.
Popcorn is a key fundraising tool that helps units fund their programs. From gear and badges to outings and service projects, popcorn provides the support units need. Last year, Troop 415 had a great experience selling popcorn—earning money and building team spirit along the way. With stronger participation, every unit in GGD can earn -- our Popcorn Kernel can share all of the financial details.
Popcorn sales mean greater visibility for Scouting in SF along with critical funding. Alongside Friends of Scouting (FOS), popcorn is an essential part of meeting the Golden Gate District’s financial goals. Last year, GGD saw limited participation—but this year, we’re ready to change that!
We’re thrilled to announce that Suzanne Garbo from Troop 415 will serve as our Popcorn Kernel. Suzanne will lead this year’s effort and is ready to support every unit with tools, training, and enthusiasm to succeed.
Parents Make a Difference Finally, unit leaders: recruit a parent volunteer or two to help coordinate popcorn at the troop or pack level. Parent involvement is one of the keys to a strong, successful sale.
Let’s work together and make 2025 Golden Gate District’s best popcorn season ever!
