Time-Sensitive Announcements

Safeguarding Youth Training Updates and Reminders:

All registered adults must complete Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) by May 31, 2026, even if your Youth Protection Training (YPT) would normally have been valid past this date. Members who have not taken the new training by this date will have their memberships suspended on June 1, in accordance with national policy.

All registered adults who have taken Safeguarding Youth Training and are due for renewal are eligible to take the 20-minute SYT Refresher course, if taken within 7 days of SYT expiration. If SYT has been expired for more than 7 days, the full 90-minute course must be taken again. The correct course to take in the Training Center is called “Safeguarding Youth Refresher.”

Marketing Internship

With the help of a set of SF Eagles who are now college students at Carnegie Mellon (CMU),  we are launching the District's first ever Marketing Internship.  Scouts from various units will create content and learn about marketing from the CMU team and our own volunteer master marketer Charlotte Brownstone.  See flyer below and like/repost Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn - GGAC posts to help spread the word. We are extending the Marketing Internship application deadline to month-end and would ask that you announce this opportunity in your next meetings and in your unit newsletters.

Cub Scout Pack Retention

Please have someone from your pack register for Mike Yorg's New Member Coordinator webinar on May 20th here and see a one-page summary here.

Additional General FYIs

FOS Updates

Friends of Scouting (FOS) helps fund Scouting programs, including our overnight camps, camperships, training, and youth activities throughout the year. Our 2026 district goal is $87,000, and thanks to the generosity of many volunteers and supporters, we have already raised more than $38,000 toward that goal, including over $30,000 contributed early in the campaign from our district leadership. We are excited to build momentum as our units engage. Thank you to Pack 345 and Troop 88 for helping lead the way with unit presentations. We will be sharing social media posts and donation asks that units, leaders, families, and friends can help amplify by liking and reposting. Please reach out to Charlotte with any questions regarding social media fundraising support. More to come!

Service Opportunities

Thanks/congrats again to Enoch Ho for stepping up as District Service Chair. We need volunteers to help staff the Guardsmen marathon on 6/21, which will get volunteers free entry into next year's races at length of their choosing. If you want any guidance on how to build and run a fun and impactful monthly service event program in your unit, reach out to Mr. Ho. We also encourage any units to reach out to Mr. Ho if they have a service event organized that could use a few more hands from other units.

Recruiting Tables

Remember that as long as they are volunteer staffed,  our amazing District Executive Marisol Gonzalez can help you get Council funds to cover recruiting booths/tables. Units are able to recruit anywhere in the city they choose, such as the Union Street Festival, North Beach Festival, and Inner and Outer Sunset Farmers Markets. The Guardsmen have also offered a recruiting table at the 6/21 Marathon, let Mr. Ho know if your unit would like to staff it.

Scout Advancement

T2088G Scoutmaster Peabody put together a program for getting Crossovers ranked up to Scout in two meetings via Scout run workstations here. There's also a new asset on getting Scouts to First Class in 12-18 months here. If your units would like help/advice implementing these, let District Training Chair Rob Oliver know!
