This email was sent to all registered adult leaders in the Golden Gate District (San Francisco and part of Daly City). It was NOT sent to scouts or scout parents. If you see an event or other information in this email that you want your unit to participate in, please communicate that to your unit.
Have you recently onboarded new adult leaders OR are about to? The Council has created a streamlined guide to onboarding new volunteers -- on this single page, prospective leaders can find out everything they need to know about registration, YPT, AB506 and more. This page was created at the request of unit leaders who were confused about the onboarding process for new leaders. Feel free to share it widely!
Does your unit rely on subscribing to your Scoutbook calendar? Big changes are coming SOON for the Scoutbook calendar and you have some ACTION REQUIRED. Read this announcement for more; in summary:
On November 2, the existing Scoutbook calendar links will stop working / stop being updated
Parents, scouts and leaders who have subscribed to Scoutbook calendars using the previous link will need to update to using the new Internet Advance (IA) calendar link
Leaders who create calendar event should create new events in the Internet Advancement calendar
Action: Share the new link for your unit's calendar with your parents and scouts. Create new meetings in the Internet Advancement calendar. If you have other dependencies on your Scoutbook calendar (like your unit website) be sure these are updated as well.
Scouting for Food: Best Practices
November 4 and 11
Thank you to all of the units (Troop 1 and 1G, Troop 15, Troop 29, Troop 58, Troop 88 and 88G; Pack 12, Pack 58, Pack 88 and Pack 345) that attended the Scouting for Food kickoff party! Door hangers have been distributed to all units. Please record your service hours for attending the kickoff party. A huge thank you to Francois Chadwick for running our District's Scouting for Food efforts this year.
Please create a post on NextDoor in the neighborhood where you'll be doing food collection; you can post a copy of the doorhanger flyer (download as PNG or PDF) as part of your post. This can be a huge part of driving community participation!
Share your San Francisco-Marin Food Bank fundraiser link with your unit. Find your unit in the fundraiser flyer PDF.
Position Specific Training: Cub Scout and Scouts BSA Leaders
November 18
With thanks to our neighbors to the north in Marin Council, one-day Position Specific Training is available for both Cub Scout Leaders (8:45am-noon) and Scouts BSA Leaders (8:45am-1pm). Both courses will be held concurrently at the Marin County Foundation in Novato.
This year our Golden State Warriors will hold TWO Scout Nights. On December 23, the Warriors will play the Portland Trailblazers. Associated with this game, and exclusively for the Scouts, the Warriors will hold an educational basketball clinic at their practice facility in Oakland. On April 14, the Warriors will play against the Utah Jazz.
On March 2, 2024, the Council will hold their Annual Volunteer Recognition Event. From now until December 1, nominations for Council Awards are being accepted by the nomination committees. See the list of awards here (nominating committee listed to the right of each award) -- check it out and nominate a worthy scouter today!

For fun: Scouting Basics and Hiking Kahoot Quizzes
Use anytime
Many units used Kahoot as a fun multi-person quiz platform during pandemic-era online meetings. Good news: Kahoot quizzes are still fun! Feel free to use these Scouting Basics and Hiking Kahoot quizzes to keep skills sharp during the winter season.
Join scouts from the PacSky Council at their annual holiday season festival! Decorate gingerbread houses, do holiday crafts, enjoy cookies and hot cocoa and participate in scouty holiday games. Will be held at Palo Alto Fire Circle @ 1305 Middlefield Road, December 2 4-6pm.
Have some new Den Leaders, Cubmasters or Assistant Cubmasters? Besides completing their online training, be sure to pass along a link to the online Cub Scout Resources page. Newly added: suggested advancement calendars for each rank -- makes planning a year's worth of den meetings MUCH easier!
Featured this month: Paul Lanzi, District Commissioner
If you're anything like me, you've had more than a few fellow leaders tell you some version of "you HAVE to take Wood Badge!" And, if you're anything like me, being told that you HAVE to do something resulted in you... well, definitely not doing that thing.
However, I was finally convinced to take Wood Badge, and I recently completed my second weekend. I not only learned more about the scouting program, but I had the chance to meet five other scouters, each at a different point on their own scouting journey, who will now be life-long friends. For me, the most impactful part of Wood Badge was being surrounded by other scouters who not only had a passion for scouting and the experience scouting offers youth, but also had a desire to improve themselves and the scouting program they foster.
I'm not going to tell you that you have to take Wood Badge. I will say: I finally took Wood Badge, and I'm very glad that I did.
