For All Adults

Member Renewal - October 31 is an important date!

October 31 is when most parents and adult leaders will receive their first renewal reminder emails -- Be Prepared! See this membership renewal process presentation and additional notes for information on the renewal process. Last, the Council has created a resource page for Unit Leaders doing renewals. Contact your Unit Commissioner for more info, or Paul Lanzi, if you don't have a Unit Commissioner.

If your unit will be doing Unit-Paid renewals for adult leaders, scouts or both, be sure to 1) tell the adults/parents that they should not renew online and 2) do the Unit Paid renewal immediately on 10/31.

If parents will be doing their own renewals, here's what to send to parents:

How To Renew Guide - very helpful!

Doing a holiday fundraiser? Tell us about it!

We're also happy to publicize details of your unit fundraiser -- from popcorn to wreaths, we love driving more traffic to your fundraiser. Send details to ggd.communication@gmail.com so we can share that information on this newsletter and our District Facebook page.

Ready for Scouting for Food?

Did you need info on how to pick up your unit's door hangers? Have any changes to the food pickup map for 2024?  Get in touch with our District's Scouting for Food Coordinator, Francois Chadwick if so!

Reminder: Send us your New Member Join Night information

Fall is prime recruiting season, and most units have a New Member Join Night (or Join Activity). If you're having such an activity, send the details to ggd.communication@gmail.com so we can post it on our District Facebook page! You may also want to consider posting on NextDoor to attract neighborhood attention to your Join Night/Activity.

EVENT RECAP: Jamboree On the Air / Jamboree On the Internet

October 19 @ VA Hospital (Presidio)

Jamboree on the Air (JOTA)/Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) was this past weekend. The scouts learned about ham radio operations, connected with operators in France and Germany, plus scouts at the Vandenberg Air Force Base, and participated in Scout-run worldwide Minecraft servers! We had breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge from the historic VA Hospital -- a huge thank you to the Veterans Administration and the radio operators who spent their day with us.

EVENT RECAP: Fleet Week Airshow Viewing & BBQ

October 13 @ Sea Scout Base

Under a gloriously clear sky, over 100 enthusiastic guests from five Councils, spanning from Rohnert Park to to Fairfield to Monterey, gathered for an unforgettable day. The memorable experience featured exhilarating outrigger canoe rides, a delicious BBQ feast, and the breathtaking spectacle of the Fleet Week Airshow. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the dedicated volunteers from Pacifica Troop 74, Explorer Club Makani, and our own District team for bringing this cherished annual event to life!

NEW: Help Rebuild the Dog Patch Cabins @ Camp Herms

Nov 23, Dec 7 and Dec 14

We will be working with the NorCal Carpenters Union to rebuild the Cabins to provide all Council Scouts with an awesome space to come and spend time, go on their first camp out, and enjoy the space we have so close to us.

Given we will be rebuilding 7 cabins at once and with the amount of materials and equipment being used, and moved around we feel it is safest to limit participation to scouts ranked Star and above at this stage.

All scouts who help and wish, can work to earn their American Labor Merit Badge as well.

Red ribbon week patch

Reminder: Red Ribbon Week (anti-drug activity) with Free Patch

Red Ribbon Week: October 23-31; program runs through November 30

The DEA Red Ribbon Patch Program is designed to provide Scouts the opportunity to earn a patch from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) by engaging in anti-drug activities in celebration of Red Ribbon Week. The purpose of the Patch Program is to empower young people to engage with their community through drug-free activities and strengthen their anti-drug beliefs.

DEA will award a Red Ribbon Patch and Certificate of Participation to qualifying Scouts (while supplies last)! Check out the Scout Leader Toolkit for items you'll need to complete the program.

This course fulfills the requirements for Scouts BSA - Second Class Rank - Requirement 7c.

L.E.A.D.ing the Way

Halloween might be just around the corner, but that means the end of the calendar year will be upon us quickly! January will bring L.E.A.D. - Leader Education and Discovery - our Council's annual training day. There are 8 colleges:
  • Cub Scouts
  • Scouts BSA
  • Venturing
  • Sea Scouts
  • Exploring
  • Outdoor Education
  • Continuing Education
  • Technology

Offering something valuable for everyone. I've taught at LEAD the last several years, and it's truly inspiring to be surrounded by hundreds of other adult leaders from across northern California -- all seeking to pick up new skills, make new connections and learn how to offer a better scouting program to the youth. I encourage you to set aside January 25 2025 (at Diablo Valley College, Pleasant Hill) as a day to learn, renew and recharge your scouting energy!
